Care Guide

Children playing in GINGI clothes

Clothes are just clothes. Memories matter more.

Clothes are just clothes. Memories matter more.

When you see them jumping into that enormous mud puddle, and you think "Oh no, it's brand new" or "I just changed them", that's okay. That's exactly what childhood looks like.

Those grass-stained knees, chocolate-smudged cheeks, and paint-splattered sleeves? They're the stories they'll carry with them. GINGI pieces are made to be lived in, not kept on a shelf.

But because we craft each garment to last, with natural fabrics, artisan stitching, and love in every seam, we want to help you care for them properly. So they stay beautiful enough to pass down, season after season.

Do

  • Always check the care label inside each GINGI garment before washing
  • Sort by colour: keep whites, lights, and darks separate
  • Turn garments inside out to protect prints and embroidery
  • Close zippers, buttons, and snaps before washing to prevent snagging
  • Use a mild, fragrance-free detergent, gentle on skin and fabric
  • Wash on a delicate cycle at 30°C for most GINGI cotton and linen pieces
  • Use a mesh laundry bag for delicate items and hand-finished details
  • Treat stains as soon as possible. Fresh stains are always easier to remove
  • Air dry flat or on a hanger. It's kinder to natural fibres
  • Store clean, fully dry garments only. Never put away damp clothing

Don't

  • Don't use bleach or harsh stain removers. They weaken natural fibres and fade colours
  • Don't overload the washing machine. Clothes need room to move and rinse properly
  • Don't tumble dry unless the label specifically allows it
  • Don't wash on high heat. Hot water sets stains and shrinks natural fabrics
  • Don't wring delicate fabrics. Gently press water out instead
  • Don't iron directly on prints or embroidery. Always iron inside out on low heat
  • Don't leave wet swimwear bundled. Rinse in cold water and dry flat immediately
  • Don't store in plastic bags long-term. Natural fibres need to breathe
  • Don't skip emptying pockets. Crayons, tissues, and coins cause real damage in the wash
  • Don't dry in direct sunlight for long periods. It can fade delicate colours over time

Stain Removal Tips

Act fast, treat gently, and always test on a hidden area first. Blot, never rub, and rinse with cold water before washing.

Mud & Grass

Let mud dry completely, then brush off excess. Pre-treat with a paste of baking soda and cold water for 30 minutes. For grass, dab with white vinegar diluted 1:1 with water before washing at 30°C.

Chocolate & Chocolate Ice Cream

Scrape off excess with a spoon. Rinse the back of the fabric with cold running water. Apply a drop of mild dish soap, gently work in, leave 10 minutes, then wash cold. Never use hot water, it sets cocoa stains.

Strawberries & Fruit

Flush with cold water immediately. Pour boiling water through the stain from the reverse side (adults only). For stubborn marks, soak in cold water with a splash of white vinegar for 30 minutes before washing.

Crayons & Wax

Scrape off hardened wax with a blunt knife. Place paper towels above and below, press with a warm (not hot) iron so wax transfers to paper. Pre-treat remaining colour with mild dish soap, then wash as normal.

Pen & Marker

Blot, don't rub. Dab with rubbing alcohol or hand sanitiser on a cotton pad, working from outside in. Rinse cold. For water-based markers, cold water and detergent usually work. Repeat if needed before drying.

Paint (Water-Based)

Scrape off wet paint gently. Rinse the back of the fabric under cold running water. Soak in cold water with mild detergent for 1 hour. Wash at 30°C. For dried paint, soak overnight in cold water first.

Oil & Grease

Blot excess with a paper towel. Cover with cornflour or talcum powder for 30 minutes to absorb oil. Brush off, apply mild dish soap directly, work in gently, leave 15 minutes, then wash at 30°C.

Blood

Always use cold water. Hot water sets protein stains permanently. Rinse immediately under cold running water. Soak in cold salted water (1 tbsp salt per litre) for 30 minutes, then wash at 30°C with mild detergent.

Milk & Baby Formula

Rinse with cold water. Pre-treat with enzyme-free mild detergent (enzymes can set protein stains). Soak 30 minutes in cold water, then wash at 30°C. Check before drying and repeat if any mark remains.

Vomit

Scrape off solids first. Rinse cold. Soak in cold water with 1 tbsp bicarbonate of soda for 30 minutes to neutralise odour. Wash at 30°C. Air dry. If smell persists, soak again before storing.

Garden Dirt & Sand

Shake off dry sand and brush away dirt outdoors. Pre-soak in cold water with a small amount of white vinegar for 20 minutes. Wash at 30°C. For playground stains, a soft nail brush helps on sturdy cotton.

Ice Lollies & Juice

Blot immediately, don't rub. Flush with cold water from the back. Pre-treat with mild detergent, soak 15 minutes. For bright dyes like berry or beetroot, add a splash of white vinegar to the soak water.

Care Symbols

How to Hand Wash Delicates

  1. Read the label first. If it says hand wash only, trust it, especially for embroidery and hand-finished GINGI details.
  2. Fill a clean basin with lukewarm water (max 30°C) and a teaspoon of mild detergent. Swirl to mix.
  3. Submerge the garment and gently swish for 2 to 3 minutes. Never scrub, twist, or wring. Treat it like something you'd pass to your grandchildren.
  4. Rinse in clean cool water until the water runs clear. You may need two or three rinses for soapy or stained items.
  5. Press out water gently. Lay flat on a clean towel, roll up, and press. Reshape while damp and dry flat or on a padded hanger away from direct sun.

Storage & Keeping Clothes Fresh

Organised GINGI wardrobe

Storage & Keeping Clothes Fresh

Everyday Wardrobe Freshness

  • Only store clean, fully dry clothes. Even slight dampness causes odour and mildew
  • Leave wardrobe doors open occasionally to let air circulate in humid climates like the UAE
  • Tuck a lavender sachet or cedar block into drawers. Natural, child-safe, and moth-repellent
  • For persistent odours: hang garments in fresh air for a few hours, or steam lightly
  • Never use heavy synthetic fragrances on children's clothing. Delicate skin deserves better

Summer / Winter Rotation

  • Wash and fully dry everything before storing away for the season
  • Fold knitwear and heavy cotton. Hanging stretches shoulders over time
  • Store summer linens in breathable cotton bags. Avoid sealed plastic
  • Winter layers: fold with acid-free tissue between pieces to prevent colour transfer
  • Label storage boxes by size and season. Future you (or future siblings) will thank you

Keeping Pieces for Years (Even for Grandchildren)

GINGI garments are made to be treasured. To store special pieces long-term:

  • Clean thoroughly and ensure 100% dry before packing away
  • Wrap in acid-free tissue paper. Never regular newspaper, ink transfers
  • Store in a breathable cotton garment bag or archival box in a cool, dry, dark place
  • Add a cedar block or lavender sachet. Refresh every 6 months
  • Check stored items once a season and refold to prevent permanent crease lines
  • Write the date and occasion on a small tag. Those mud-puddle memories deserve to be remembered
